Ten days is enough to combine a full Kerala loop with a taste of neighbouring Tamil Nadu or Karnataka — temple towns, hill stations and coffee country layered around the Kerala core. Roampedia's deep, place-by-place coverage today is Kerala; the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka legs below are named for planning purposes, not linked, since we have not yet mapped those states in the same depth.

Days 1–4: the Kerala core
Start exactly as a Kerala-only trip would: two days in Fort Kochi for heritage lanes and the Chinese fishing nets, then up into the Western Ghats to Munnar for two days among the tea hills. This is the part of the trip where Roampedia's coverage is deepest — use it to plan the details, cafes, and pacing.
Days 5–8: Tamil Nadu and Karnataka
From Munnar, cross into Tamil Nadu to Madurai, home to the immense, colourfully sculpted Meenakshi Temple — one of South India's most striking religious sites. From there, travel on toward Karnataka: Mysore, with its ornate royal palace and bustling markets, and Coorg, a cooler hill region known for coffee plantations rather than tea. Some travellers add Ooty, a British-era hill station, in place of Coorg — both work, but do not try to fit both into a 10-day trip. These legs are editorial for now: we are naming the places worth seeing, but verify opening hours, entry fees and local transport yourself, since Roampedia does not yet cover Tamil Nadu or Karnataka in the depth we cover Kerala.
Days 9–10: back to Kerala
Loop back into Kerala for an overnight houseboat through the Alleppey backwaters, then finish with a day at the beach — either the clifftop cafes of Varkala or the resort strip at Kovalam — before flying out. See our guide to getting around India for how to cover the longer inter-state hops (car versus train versus a short flight).
- Kerala is fully mapped on Roampedia; Tamil Nadu and Karnataka legs here are editorial — double-check details locally.
- The Munnar-to-Madurai and Mysore-to-Coorg legs are long drives — budget a half-day of travel each way, not a quick hop.
- October to March suits the whole route; see [the best time to visit India](guide:best-time-to-visit-india).
- Do not add a fourth region — Kerala plus one neighbour is already a full 10 days.
Frequently asked questions
Is 10 days enough for South India?
For a Kerala-anchored trip with a taste of one neighbouring state — Tamil Nadu or Karnataka — yes. Trying to cover all of South India in 10 days means rushing every stop.
Which states does this itinerary cover?
A full Kerala core (Fort Kochi, Munnar, Alleppey, a beach) plus a Tamil Nadu leg (Madurai) and a Karnataka leg (Mysore, Coorg).
How much of this can I plan on Roampedia versus myself?
The Kerala legs are fully mapped here — use our guides and links. The Tamil Nadu and Karnataka legs are named for planning purposes only; verify the details yourself until we cover those states in depth.
Should I add Ooty instead of Coorg?
Either works as a Karnataka/Tamil Nadu hill-station stop, but pick one — adding both would over-pack a 10-day trip.
