Nalknad Palace (Nalknad Aramane), built in 1792 by the Haleri raja Dodda Virarajendra, is tucked among coffee estates at the foot of Tadiandamol near Kakkabe. A modest two-storey wooden palace, its halls and pavilion keep faded murals and carved woodwork.
It was the last stronghold of the Kodagu kings before the British annexed Coorg in 1834, and today it is a quiet heritage stop and the usual base for the Tadiandamol trek.
