Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

Ranganathittu is Karnataka’s largest bird sanctuary, a cluster of small riverine islands in the Kaveri near Srirangapatna. From June to about November it becomes a huge breeding ground for painted storks, open-billed storks, herons, egrets, ibises, spoonbills and cormorants.

Ranganathittu is Karnataka’s largest bird sanctuary, a cluster of small riverine islands in the Kaveri near Srirangapatna. From June to about November it becomes a huge breeding ground for painted storks, open-billed storks, herons, egrets, ibises, spoonbills and cormorants.

A guided boat ride glides close to the crowded nesting trees and to marsh crocodiles basking on the rocks — one of the best short wildlife experiences in South India.
