The Kalleshwara Temple at Bagali, in Harapanahalli taluk, is a Shiva temple begun under the Rashtrakutas around 987 CE and extended by the Western Chalukyas. It is an ASI-protected monument and one of the finest early temples of the region.
Its fame rests on the sculpture — finely carved black-stone pillars, deeply worked ceiling panels and a navaranga (nine-bay hall) of dancers, musicians and deities — which has earned it the tag of a "Khajuraho of Karnataka."
